Information and communications technology (ICT), including hardware, software, and network-connected devices, have transformed the way people live, and people are increasingly dependent on these systems in every aspect of their daily lives. They are essential not only to providing critical services such as power, water, and telecommunications, but also to supporting other important services touching all aspects of commercial, educational, and social life.
At the same time, attacks against these systems have increased in frequency and sophistication, creating legitimate public concern about the confidentiality, integrity, and reliability of these systems. As a result, governments, businesses, and individuals all want ICT products to be more secure.
