The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) draft legislative concepts reviewed and discussed among the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) as “CBP Challenge Areas” were largely viewed as a means to streamline and enhance enforcement authorities for CBP with limited facilitative impact for trade.
The last two years of engagement with CBP have resulted in increased mutual understanding and revised legislative proposals that COAC sees as more palatable to the trade community than those originally presented. The collaborative effort between CBP, the Task Force, and the Focus Group was robust and productive.
